INSIDE ELSPETH LYNN’S LONDON TOWNHOUSE

January 10, 2017

Today I am sharing with you a beautiful London apartment owned and designed by Elspeth Lynn. Looking at this luxurious home, it seems like I am not the only one who loves caramel. I find the colour palette not only inspiring but also so indulgent – a combination of caramel, black and gold which gives this special home a sense of old-glamour.

Lynn is an amazing designer, and I love how she has used every existing space fully with creative thinking which in turn makes this home spacious, uncluttered and so enjoyable to live in.

“I designed a place for every single thing, as I believe that tidiness is easier to achieve if the right storage is at hand.” Lynn Elsepth

Lynn’s apartment is full of creative design ideas that I thought of sharing with you. Scroll down and get inspired:

This multifunctional mirrored wall divider is not only a work of art but also acts as a dressing area with handy storage. I love the carpet, its eye-catching patterns make the space look very spacious.
There are many elements in this bedroom that draw the eye upwards to the ceiling: the curtains that drop from ceiling to the floor, the tall and slim mirrored panels on either side of the bed and the pendant lamps dropping from the ceiling. All these clever design tricks enhance the height, making this bedroom appear so much taller and airy.

Using symmetry, Lynn has achieved a sense of balance and created harmony and order in this bedroom. I also find that the symmetrical arrangement makes the space look larger and airy.

This large mirror adds depth to this luxurious white bathroom, and also draws the eyes upwards to the ceiling, making the space appear more expansive. I also love how it bounces the natural light around.

Lynn has lined the walls with a textured wallpaper which draws the eye away from the length of the space. I also find that the patterns of the black-and-white checkerboard flooring appear to elongate the space.
She has also used many reflective surfaces in this hallway, creating an illusion of a much larger space as you enter her beautiful home: the black-and-white checkerboard flooring, the gallery wall hanged in glass frames and the glossy
paintwork, bounce the light around and also create a feel of luxury.

Again in this sitting room, you can notice how Lynn has used symmetry to create balance and order. Here, the curtains and the oversized mirror, both draw the eye upwards to the ceiling and amplify the height of the room. She has kept the window treatments to a minimum to maximise the amount of natural light the room receives. I also love the black and gold rug with its eye-catching patterns. This striking rug adds depth, making this room appear larger.

I adore this dramatic black-lacquered workstation. It is imaginative, visually stunning and also very practical. Lynn has used symmetry and colour to create an impressive effect. Painting the alcove in black really amplifies the height of the room. The symmetrical built-in alcoves on either side create a sophisticated feel.

These oversized white floor to ceiling storage cabinets make this kitchen more open and spacious.  The steel-and-glass doors are not only visually beautiful but are also very useful: they can be shut for privacy when necessary or opened up when the use of the full floor space is required; they also allow the natural light to spread throughout the two rooms. The beautiful parquet really adds a touch of elegance and the lines of the chevron patterns appear to elongate and expand the space.

Lynn has used many design tricks to make this dining area look so much more spacious and inviting. Again, she has kept the window treatments to a minimum and maximised the amount of natural light the dining room receives. Keeping the wall white, the daylight is kept intact. The low-profile furniture which is up on legs makes this dining area airy. She has used symmetrical arrangements to create balance, making the dining area feel more open. The striking mirror ball pendant lights draw the eye upwards to the ceiling and amplify the height of the space.

Lynn chose a monochromatic colour palette to make this bedroom look larger than what it is. The diamond-embossed carpet appears to expand the space. A simple sheer roller blind still allows privacy but does not stop the natural light coming in, and the curtains draw the eye upwards to the ceiling which amplify the height of this small room. The use of symmetry creates balance and order. The floor to ceiling custom made wardrobes maximise storage potential and the bed sitting in the alcove creates a feeling of cosiness and makes the room look more spacious.

This simple little vignette is not only visually beautiful but also very handy for hanging coats and keeping the entrance looking tidy.
